Finlandia-katsaus 272

President Paasikivi left for a state visit in the Soviet Union on 15 September 1955, accompanied by a delegation led by Prime Minister Kekkonen. Finlandia Newsreel 272 shows the departure on the state visit at Helsinki Seutula Airport. The trip to Moscow was made on a specially designed Soviet luxury airplane. Stately welcoming ceremony in Moscow, large honour guard and some 400 official delegates. This newsreel covers the beginning of the state visit. The visit by Paasikivi and Kekkonen was historic: on 17 September Moscow announced that Porkkala headland, which had been leased to the Soviet Union for 50 years as a naval base under the Moscow armistice agreement in 1944, would be returned to Finland.
