Thisstudy aims to ascertain how individuals experience their outsourced employment relationship from the viewpoint of well-being at work. A literature review will introduce the characteristics of outsourcing and how it impacts well-being at work. The study is qualitative, and its empirical part is based on individual interviews in the municipality of Ruokolahti. Representatives of municipal administration contributed information on outsourcing as a strategic solution. Small-scale entrepreneurs who had undertaken outsourced tasks were interviewed ontheir experiences in terms of well-being at work. In addition to traditional local factors, the outsourced employment relationships exhibited stress factors that were specific to distributed organisations and had an effect on theexperience of well-being. For instance, an increase in employee autonomy and trust between the parties of the outsourcing relationship had a positive effect onwell-being compared to previous in-house employees, even though the examinationof well-being at work was only of secondary importance to both the outsourcer and the outsourcee.
