Sammandrag:

År 2009 fick jag uppdraget att formge en informativ bok med titeln “Jag drar mig undan”. Uppdragsgivare var Finlands Svenska Psykosociala Centralförbund rf och Svenska hörselförbundet rf. Syftet med examensarbetet är att studera vilka typografiska faktorer som är viktiga för att skapa en tydlig och tilltalande layout i en bok. Dessutom studerar jag själva produktionsprocessen med att formge ett textmanus. Mitt val av forskningsmetod bygger på Rune Petterssons modell “ kreativa processer” som beskrivs i boken “Information Design - An introduction”. Arbetet är en kvalitativ fallstudie med utgångspunkt i en hermeneutiskt forskningsansats. Jag beskriver och analyserar min egen formgivning och produktionsprocess med hjälp av främst Bo Bergströms samt Rune Petterssons teorier. För att kunna fördjupa mig i mitt examensarbete har jag valt följande centrala frågeställningar. På vilket sätt påverkade mina typografiska val bokens läsbarhet? Hur såg min produktionsprocess ut? Vilka svagheter och styrkor hade den? I resultatredovisningen sätts fokus på bokens inre kontext och hur de typografiska faktorerna samspelar med varandra. Resultatredovisningen är uppdelad i fyra delkapitel: analys och översikt, produktion av utkast, produktion av manus och produktion av original. I slutsatserna beskrivs typografins avgörande betydelse för läsligheten. Tre faktorer lyfts fram vilka lägger grunden och underlättar valen för en bra ty- pografi; färdigt textmanus innan formgivningen inleds, analys av målgruppens demografiska- och psykografiska faktorer samt en djupgående inledande diskussion med uppdragsgivaren. Mina typografiska val påverkade bokens läsbarhet på ett positivt sätt. Formgivningen av brödtexten är av avgörande betydelse för läsbarheten, i slutsatsen redovisas för mina val. En styrka i min arbetsprocess har varit tillbakablickarna, som gjorts efter varje avslutad arbetsprocess. Dessa säkerställer att materialet är väsentligt, innan arbetet fortskridit ytterligare.

Abstract:

In 2009 I had the opportunity of designing an informative book with the title "Jag drar mig undan". The client was Finlands Svenska Psykosociala Centralförbund rf and Svenska hörselförbundet rf. The aim of the thesis is to study the typographical factors when designing a clear and attractive layout for a book. In addition, I study the production process of designing from a text script. My choice of research method is based on Rune Pettersson's model of "Creative processes" as described in the book "Information Design - An introduction". The work is a qualitative case study based on a hermeneutic research approach. I describe and analyze my own design and production using mainly Bo Bergström's and Rune Pettersson's theories. To be able to immerse myself in my study I have chosen the following key issues. What affected my typographic choices to the book's readability? What was my production process like? What are the weaknesses and strengths? The presentation of the results focuses on the book's internal context and how the typographic factors interact with each other. The presentation of results is divided into four Subchapters: analysis and review, producing drafts, production scripts and production of original. Conclusions described the typographical essential meaning of the readability. Three factors are highlighted which lays the foundation and favor the election of a good typography, complete text of the script before starting the design, analysis of the target demographic and psychographic factors and a thorough preliminary discussion with the client. My typographic choices affected the book's readability in a positive way. The design of the body is essential for readability, this is the found in the conclusion of the report. A strength of my work process has been a look back, made after completion of each work process. This ensures that the material is essential, be- fore the work has progressed further.
