Välbefinnande på arbetsplatsen inom branscherna för informations– och kommunikationsteknik samt social– och hälsovård : En tvärsnittsstudie

In this thesis we focused on the well–being at work within the occupations of information and communications technology (ICT) and health and social care. The goal of this study was to compare the well–being at work between the employees in these two occupations with the help of a specific survey. Our thesis is grounded on the so–called stairs of well– being at work (Otala & Ahonen) and on the concept of sense of coherence (Antonovsky). Our questions were: How does the well–being at work look like within the occupation information and communications technology and health and social care? Can one identify any similarities and differences between these work groups’ well–being at work? The surveys that we analyzed were gathered from two different projects, WASI and OSUVA. WASI stands for” Work Ability and Social Inclusion” and the aim of the project is to improve work health within the occupation ICT. OSUVA is a project based on research and development inside the occupation health and social care. The main goal is to improve the ability to lead innovational activity built on collaboration between interdisciplinary working units. These two projects have used the so–called KIVA–survey as a method to collect data from the field. The KIVA–survey consisted of seven questions and was used to map out the well–being at work. The results of this survey were summered and the mean was calculated with the help of the statistic program SPSS. The results showed that the well– being at work was, in both occupations, on a relatively good level (mean within ICT: 7,79 and within health and social care: 7,46). The main findings were that the ICT unit experienced, in comparison with the health and social care unit, that its work was more meaningful and felt that its closest superiors had better leadership qualities. The workers of the ICT unit could also affect their own work more often.
