The purpose of this thesis is to develop Kokkola Hermes Ice-Hockey Club’s social media marketing and thereby help the organization to use their social media more effectively. Social media is an affordable way for sports clubs to implement marketing and can be used to increase the club’s cash flow cost-effectively. The purpose of this work is to provide a development plan and to give ideas for social media usage for a low-budget sports organization.

The thesis consists of two sections: a theory section and development plan section. Theory section reviews theories of social media marketing in general and from the perspective of a sports club. Development plan section of the thesis focuses on how Kokkola Hermes Ice-Hockey Club could improve their social media marketing.

The main research question is, how social media marketing of a small sports club can be developed? The dissertation also examines sports marketing on social media and how add value for business partners and for followers of social media.

The dissertation reveals how social media can be utilized more effectively, even if it is done with a small marketing budget. The work reviews what successful marketing requires in social media and how it can be developed.
