The aim of the thesis was to find out how the implementation of the pro-ject at the accounting office was done from traditional accounting into a real-time financial management expert. The study was commissioned by Visma Solutions Oy and the case company was Arol Finance Oy. The end result was also to be used to develop Visma Solutions’ services and the co-operation between accounting offices.

The theoretical part focuses on finding out what traditional accounting is and how real-time financial management differs from it. This is treated both from the point of view of the accounting office’s benefits and from the point of view of the clients of the accounting office. The theory is ini-tially based on finding out what is the company's operation process and external and internal accounting. Internal accounting takes a more accu-rate look at cost accounting, activity-based costing and profitability calcu-lations.

The study was conducted in the form of theme interviews. There were three different interviews from the case company. Interviews were used to determine how the project had progressed and what results had been achieved in the project. During the project, the accounting office was able to streamline its own processes and to intensify its operations by using au-tomation of the financial management software. In order for the account-ing office to be able to compete now and in the future, the accounting of-fice must change the way in which it operates to meet real-time economy. Businesses providing financial management software are also in a key role in the process, because in automated financial management programs this change is carried out in cooperation with the accounting offices.
