The purpose of this study was to determine what kind of user experiences children and their parents had related to the use of the nitrous oxide as a pain treatment method in the topical treatments of arthritis. The aim was to provide more information about the topic for clinical personnel and other professionals on the basis of user experiences.

During that cause pain management measures should be considered as adequate pain re-lief pains and unpleasant sensations away, so that the child should not be negative image of the treatment. Send-roads were searched databases in Finnish and English.The thesis was implemented by preparing questionnaires for children and their parents in order to deter-mine the experiences related how the new form of treatment in greater detail. The aim was to receive 10-15 responses, but a total of 25 responses were received.

The responses showed that the treatment was mainly perceived good and functional. Most of the children and their parents found shorter hospital stays and the quickness of the pro-cedure pleasant. Children’s tension and fear were also reduced. The results were classified based on the physical effects, the children's attitude towards the treatment, fasting and the hospital stay as well as the experience of pain intensity.

The results will benefit the clinical staff and the hospital's other departments and outpa-tient clinics if they are planning to extend the use of nitrous oxide treatments. The results can also be used by other health care professionals and students. The following types of graduate studies would be needed: Livopan®-nitrous oxide by means of tasks of the man-agement of adult side, the use of nitrous oxide in other local treatments or procedures and the investigation, which focuses solely on Livopan® nitrous oxide-a pain reliever.
