Imetysohjauskysely 3-4 kuukauden ikäisten lasten äideille

In Finland, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended until the age of six months, and with solid foods breastfeeding should continue until 1 year. However, exclusive breastfeeding until the age of six months is rare despite the recommendation. In Finland, the support and guidance in accordance with the recommendations of breastfeeding behaviour are not always consistent. The purpose of feeding guidance is to secure adequate nutrition to the child, increase the mothers' well-being and to increase the confidence in breast-feeding, as well as to promote breastfeeding and solve prob- lems. The purpose of the thesis was to examine the breastfeeding counselling experiences of mothers of 3-4-month-old children in the child health clinics of the Central Finland Regional Health Centre. The aim of the thesis was to develop breastfeeding counselling given by the child health clinics on the basis of the feedback received from the mothers. The thesis was a quantitative survey conducted at the child health clinics of the Central Finland Regional Health Centre. The data was collected by a using questionnaire which was answered by mothers of 3-4-month-old children in their own clinics during September and October 2015. 37 replies to the questionnaire were received. The results were processed by using statistical methods. The answers to the open questions were analysed by using content analysis and the structured questions were analysed with the help of an Excel table. Breastfeeding counselling was mainly deemed to be a positive experience in the child health clinics. For example, home visits and the first child health clinic visits were considered very important. The respondents also felt that they had received insufficient encouragement to breastfeeding.
