Vartijaimusolmuke on imusolmuke, joka sijaitsee lähimpänä syöpäkasvainta. Neoprobe® GDS -laitetta käytetään yleisesti Keski-Suomen keskussairaalassa rintasyövän levinneisyyttä selvitettäessä. Vartijaimusolmuketutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tunnistaa potilastapaukset,joissa kasvain on lähettänyt etäpesäkkeitä ja näin välttää suuremmat rinta-alueen poistot niillä potilailla, joilla rintasyöpä ei ole levinnyt vartijaimusolmukkeisiin.

Opinnäytetyö on kirjallisuuskatsauksen pohjalta tuotettu ohje Keski-Suomen keskussairaalan päiväkirurgiselle yksikölle vartijaimusolmukelaitteen tarkoituksenmukaisesta ja turvallisesta käytöstä. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on, että päiväkirurgisen yksikön uudet ja pidempään työssä olleet työntekijät oppisivat Neoprobe® GDS -laitteen käytön ja syventäisivät osaamistaan. Hoitohenkilökunnalla on tilaisuus käyttää ohjeistuksesta saamaansa tietoa aikaisemman asiantuntijuutensa tukena.

Opinnäytetyö on koottu etsimällä teoriaa tutkitusta tiedosta sekä tuottamalla toiminnallinen työ, joka palvelee käytännön työtä. Opinnäytetyön teoreettinen viitekehys koottiin käyttäen sekä ulkomaisia että kotimaisia painettuja kirjoja, lehtiä, kokoteksti- ja viitetietokantoja sekä asiantuntijaa. Opinnäytetyön tuloksia ja työn onnistumista analysoidaan sen palautteen perusteella. Palautetta opinnäytetyöstä on kerätty laitteen valmistajalta sekä opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajalta.

Sentinel lymph node is a lymph node that is closest to the tumor. Neoprobe® GDS is commonly used device in breast cancer surgery. It’s used to detect the spread of breast cancer in Central Finland Central Hospital. Aim of sentinel lymph node investigation is to identify the patients where the tumor has already sent metastasis. Thus it is possible to avoid larger removals of the breast tissue for those patients whose breast cancer hasn’t spread to sentinel lymph nodes.

The thesis is a literature review on the basis of guidelines produced by the Central Finland Central Hospital day surgery unit of how it is appropriate and safe to use the sentinel node device. The aim of the thesis is to deepen the knowledge of the use of Neoprobe® GDS.Staff members of the day surgery unit who have worked longer and also for the newer staff members can learn of the device. A nursing staff will have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained from previous guidance in support of their expertise.

This bachelor’s thesis is build on theory from researched scientific knowledge and producing functional work which serves practical work. Thesis theoretical framework was collected by using foreign and domestic printed books, magazines, full-text articles,reference databases and an expert. The results and success of the thesis are analyzed according to the collected feedback. Both manufacturer of the Neoprobe® GDS detector and ordering party has given feedback on the thesis.
