This thesis examines a cinematographers range of responsibilities and the narrative and technical tools at his disposal. The goal of the thesis is to present various tools and techniques for a cinematographer to adapt to different sized productions. Thesis studies these tools at different phases of a production and studies how the size of a production affects the responsibilities of a cinematographer. The productive part of the thesis is a short movie Yleisönosastolta Poimittua, which is analysed from the perspective of cinematography and postproduction. The last chapter of the thesis is dedicated to applying the presented tool and methods in the production of the movie.
