Suomen luonnolla on paljon tarjottavaa luontodokumentin tekijöille, kuten upeita maisemia sekä laaja kasvi- ja eläinkunta. Suomessa on tehty muutaman viimeisen vuosikymmenen aikana satoja luontodokumentteja ja todennäköisesti niitä tehdään myös jatkossa. Jokaisella Suomessa kuvatulla luontodokumentilla on oma tyylinsä kertoa Suomen luonnon tapahtumista. Tästä huolimatta aina on tilaa uusille näkemyksille.

Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan eri tapoja lähestyä luontodokumentin kuvaamista Suomessa. Lukijalle opinnäytetyö antaa tietoa Suomen luonnosta ja sitä, kuinka tätä tietoa voi käyttää hyödyksi luontodokumentin teossa. Opinnäytetyön päätavoite oli löytää luontodokumentin teon kannalta tärkeimmät seikat ja yhdistää ne toisiinsa.

Opinnäytetyön tutkimusvaiheessa käytetty kirjallisuus käsittelee valokuvausta, elokuvantekoa sekä dokumenttien kuvaamista. Näitä kolmea aihetta yhdistelemällä työssä on saavutettu kokonaiskuva luontodokumenttien teosta Suomessa.

Suomen luonnon voi tallentaa nauhalle lukemattomilla eri tavoilla. Luontodokumentin tekoprosessi vaatii tekijältään kärsivällisyyttä ja luovaa mieltä.

Nature in Finland has a great deal to offer, for example beautiful landscapes and a wide diversity of flora and fauna. A number of documentaries of Finnish nature have been made during the last few decades and are likely to be made in the future. Every nature documentary made in Finland has its own viewpoint in observing Finnish nature. In fact, there is always space for individual perspectives.

This thesis examined different ways to approach the making of nature documentaries in Finland. It gives basic information about Finnish nature, and how to utilize that information in the documentaries. The main goal of the thesis was to find the most important viewpoints of nature documentary and to combine them.

In the theoretical part of the thesis, the writer examined literature about nature photography, filmmaking and documentaries. Through combining these three subjects, it was possible to achieve a general view of how to shoot nature documentaries in Finland.

There are countless ways to capture Finnish nature onto tape. None of these ways is the only correct one. The work process of making nature documentaries requires patience and a creative mind.
