Monitoring and measuring flue gas emissions is one of the main points power plant analysis in energy production. Emission monitoring is used as part of controlling harmful compounds released into the air and environment. This thesis aims to develop Vamy Ltd power plant BFB-boiler K7 flue gas dust emission measurements. The aim is to bring boiler K7 flue gas dust emission measurements within the standards. This thesis presents different options, that offers different kind of methods for developing the measuring process.

The study presents the laws related to the topic, such as the LCP-regulation, standards SFS-EN 14181 and SFS-EN 15259. These give power plants certain guidance to their dust emission measurements. Standard SFS-EN 14181 regulates flue gas emission measurement quality control, follow up during the use as well as yearly controls. Standard SFS-EN 15259 gives regulations to the measuring process and its location. When finding solutions for the problem the important issue was to find out about the power plant’s current measuring systems and the ongoing problems. When proposing new solutions it was important to find out about dust emission measuring generally, the different ways of measuring as well as about the different options provided by different manufacturers.

The aim for this thesis was to provide a useful development plan for dust emission measurement for boiler K7. It was used in deciding the changes to be made to the current measuring. During the project the service requirements for the measuring equipment were also set. The importance of this thesis for the power plant in developing their plant dust emission measuring is crucial.
