Neuvolakortti ei-synnyttävälle vanhemmalle : kehittämistyö Vantaan ja Keravan hyvinvointialueen neuvolapalveluille

The purpose of this development work was to produce a maternity health clinic card for a non-birthing parent. The partner of this thesis was the Wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava. The aim was that the maternity clinics in Wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava would receive a functional work tool, which would help the staff of the maternity health clinics to support a non-birthing parent even better than before. At the same time, the non-birthing parent would receive added value due to getting better service from the maternity health clinics.

Service design and surveying were used as methods in the development work. The Google Forms survey provided valuable additional information from the target group. The target group was non-birthing parents who were or had been clients of the maternity clinic at that time. The target audience was reached from closed Facebook groups. Based on the survey, a maternity clinic card was created for non-birthing parents.

In the production process of the maternity health clinic card for non-birthing parents, service design was used by using the double diamond model. In addition, the How Might We -questions and the idea card methods were also used during the process. Based on the researched information and the survey, the first version of the maternity health clinic card for non-birthing parents was created by using a design tool called Canva. The card contained, among other things, health information about the non-birthing parent, a checklist that supports parenting growth, and information about pregnancy and the baby.

The maternity health clinic card for non-birthing parents was evaluated by the thesis’ contact person from the maternity and child health clinic services of the Wellbeing services of Vantaa and Kerava, two public health nurses working in the maternity and child health clinic services, and several persons from the target group who were non-birthing parents. The card was modified based on the feedback received.

The Google Forms survey validated the results of the service survey. Support is needed when becoming a parent. For the most part, the maternity health clinic card for non-birthing parents was viewed positively. Suggestions for a joint maternity health clinic card for both parents were also revealed.
