Olympiastadion, betonirakenteiden korjaus ja rappausten restaurointi

The plans for the largescale renovation and extension of the Olympic Stadium Helsinki were begun in 2012. The renovation work covers the Olympic Stadium in its totality. New emergency exits will be added to the stands, the premises will be renewed, new underground premises will be built and the uncovered areas of the Olympic Stadium will be covered with roofing.

The purpose of this graduation study was to study the entire renovation history of the Olympic Stadium. At the time of the writing of the study, the renovation work was underway. The study attempts to supplement the work instructions and commentaries which have already been partly drawn up. This will aid in making the end results of the renovation work historically and architecturally as accurate as possible and as technically functional and enduring as possible.

Historical materials and old plan drawings were used as the starting point for the study. An-other important source of information has been the extensive resources gathered by Sweco. The most important part of the background material consisted of the numerous rather comprehensive condition studies performed on the old structures on site.

The thesis progressed along to the set goals in three stages. To begin with, a comprehen-sive pool of research material was collected. The second phase, based on the materials, offered speculation on the different options for renovation possibilities, taking into account the history of the building. To conclude, a proposal is presented for the way in which the renovation of the concrete structure and plastering should be carried out.

Based on the present study, an updated repairs commentary will be written for the restoration of the concrete structures and plaster facades.
