The purpose of the thesis work is to document and further develop the process of optimizing refrigeration systems, study earlier optimization projects and estimate the benefits of future optimization projetcts.
In this thesis work it is explained how refrigeration systems work and what are its main components, optimization process, tools for optimization, different setting options for refrigeration automation and the results of optimization regarding electrical energy consumption and the price of electricity. There has been no proper documentation for optimizing refrigeration systems before from an automation standpoint. In this thesis work all different steps and methods of the process are explained and documented. One of the purposes for this work was to create calculations to estimate the potential benefits of optimization for future optimization projects depending on their size and the automation technology they use. Amount of precise documentation and data from earlier optimization work hindered the precision of the calculations. Regardless this study can be used to estimate the potential benefits of optimization in future projects.
