Att leva med panikångest : En kvalitativ studie om panikångest

In this thesis the respondent wrote about panic disorder; what life with panic-disorder is like, and how it is perceived. The purpose of this study was to highlight what it means to have panic disorder, to create an understanding of what panic disorder is, how it’s experienced and to provide an insight into what daily life is like with panic disorder. This is important to know because anxiety is a phenomenon that everyone experiences at some point in life, some more than others. Especially as a nurse, it is good to know how anxiety should be handled. The study was a qualitative research carried out with the help of a questionnaire that was sent out to four (4) informants. These are students, women aged 17-23, who wrote about their personal experiences. The analysis applies narrative content analysis to the open questions. The result has been interpreted in comparison to the theoretical background of Erikson's theory about suffering (1994), as well as previous research done on the subject. To further create an accurate understanding of the informants, quotes have been used. The results showed a strong influence of stress and performance anxiety in panic disorder and its prevalence. Evidence of the influence of panic disorder in everyday life emerged among half of the informants: some sites and social occasions were avoided because of panic anxiety. The conclusion was that panic attacks have become increasingly common in today's stressful and performance-oriented society.
