Varför väljer transportbolag att använda Hangö hamn?

This degree thesis deals with the Port of Hanko, with a focus on the port´s customer ser-vice and customer relationships to transport companies which use the port. The main pur-pose of the study is to examine the reasons for the transport companies choosing to use the Port of Hanko as their main port operator. Further purposes of the study are to provide in-formation to Hanko Stevedoring and that the information can hopefully be of benefit when developing the port´s service, customer service and customer relationships in the future. The study is limited to Hanko port´s main trailer and project cargo customers. The method used in the study has been qualitative and has been conducted through case studies where interviews were made with account managers within companies. To give the reader a broader view of the port sector I have in the theory part also written about different modes of transport, freight market and its costs, different ports in Finland and different processes in the harbor. Also, I have a separate chapter relating to customer relations, where I have drawn parallels between the theory and the port of Hanko customer relationship manage-ment. The responses from the interviews are presented in two SWOT analyzes, one in-volving trailer customer response results and one involving project cargo customer results, in order to make them clear and transparent. The results of the study show that in both SWOT analyzes there are far more strenghts than weaknesses. My conclusion of the re-search is therefore that both customer groups in general are very satisfied with the opera-tions of the Port of Hanko, but that they have also expressed a desire for improvements and they see various opportunities for the port to be developed so that it can be even better and can stay competitive among Finnish ports.
