”En klippa i stormen” : en kvalitativ studie om tonårsmammors upplevelse av bemötande inom vården

This report of examination is about young pregnant women’s experience of becoming teenage mothers and how they have been treated I care. The purpose of the study is to get an understanding of how it is to be young and pregnant. What hopes and expectations did the woman have and were they fulfilled?

Our questions are: How does a young pregnant woman want to be treated in care? How does the young pregnant woman feel that she has been treated in care? The theoretical basis of the study is the theory of Ramona Mercer’s “Becoming a mother”.

We have done a qualitative study whit semi structured interviews. The group we studied is Finnish women who became pregnant in the age of 13 - 19. The women must have completed their pregnancy and have chosen to keep the child. Another criterion is that it has been a few years since the teenage pregnancy, because they have then processed their experiences. The informants are six women.

The result shows that the informants are overall satisfied with the response to mother healtcare. Conversation about abortion and weight gain was adversely affected. The young pregnant women want to be treated like any pregnant woman, regardless of age.
