Ungdomars matvanor : en kvantitativ studie om matvanor bland elever som studerar andra året på gymnasiet

This thesis is a part of the project “Unga i Botnia” and treats the eating habits among second year high school students. The purpose of this study is to examine the eating habits among adolescents. The research questions are as following: How often do adolescents eat candy, fast food and snacks? Which meals do the students eat and what do they consist of? Do the students eat school lunch? If not, what do they eat instead? The survey is based on Eriksson's and Orem’s theories of health.

As the method for collecting data, we chose to use a questionnaire. The surveys were hand out to 42 students. Our survey consisted of both open and closed questions. We used the computer program Excel to be able to present the answers in pie charts. When we analyzed the closed questions we used descriptive statistics in the analyzing process. We analyzed the open questions using content analyzing principles. We compiled expressions and statements that had the same underlying thought and then formed categories based on it.

The result shows that the adolescents have healthy eating and living habits. Most of the adolescents eat breakfast, dinner and school lunch every day. It was also found that the adolescents in general are concerned about their health and have healthy habits regarding food and exercise.
