The purpose of this study was to develop a process description for the casualty and emergency department and the radiology department at a hospital in Pohjanmaa. The new process is planned to be practiced by 2014. The research questions were: What will the patient’s transfer be like from the casualty and emergency department to the radiology department? How does the cooperation work between the casualty and emergency department and the radiology department?

The terms cooperation and the health care process were chosen as theoretical frames for this study and the terms the emergency department and the radiology department were used as theoretical background. As collection method for the study a qualitative collection method was used, this was carried out through an interview. The head nurse of a radiology department, a radiology nurse with good experience of work and the head nurse of the casualty and emergency department were interviewed.

The results of the interviews were analyzed with a content analyze and presented with categories and quotes. The interview results revealed that the patient’s transfer is not yet definite. The results also showed that the cooperation is working variable between the departments. At the radiology department there are too few employees at evenings and weekends and in the casualty and emergency department the employees are very variable. It is a problem that the transport of patients is not always working as it should.
