This thesis focuses on the improvement of Kouvolan Taido’s website. The goal was to improve the usability of the site and to update its visual look to meet the preferences of the target group, consisting of men and women aged 20 to 30 who had not done martial arts before.

The theoretical framework of this thesis consists of illustration and web design. It does not contain the technical details of web design, such as coding, but focuses on visual aspects and usability. The research part of the thesis was a survey conducted through Webropol, and it enquired the target group’s general views about illustration and websites.

Three different outlines of illustration were designed based on the outcomes of the theoretical framework and the survey. Each style of illustration was then broadened to a concept of the entire website, producing 3 concepts altogether. One of these concepts was picked to be designed further and finished.

The final product was presented in 12 of comprehensive page layouts. These layouts can be used as guidelines and a base for the further development of the website.
