The purpose of this thesis was to survey and analyze a set of paperboard samples received from Metsä Board Kyro paperboard mill. The objective was to study the general structure of a folding boxboard, while the main goal was to apply and explore different sort of measurement methods for the deflections in the surface of a paperboard. Data for this thesis was collected during the tests that were conducted in the Paper and Packaging laboratory.

Part of this research was also to evaluate the suitability of Paper and Packaging laboratory equipment in the Tampere University of Applied Sciences in this type of analysis.

The result shows that photometric stereo equipment is very effective and applicable when analyzing the surface of a paperboard.
