This thesis illustrates and describes the process of information gathering, study and brainstorming that create the base for planning. The shoe rack will correspond to the needs and limitations of the commissioning party as well as that of the customers and still represents the designer´s style. The commissioner of this thesis was the manufacturer and retailer company Loviisan Aitta the main products of which are gift and utility articles.

The goal of the thesis was to determine the kind of shoe rack that interests the customers, and a way to create a functional and good looking product. The study methods used were a documentary, mind maps, interviews, questionnaire and benchmarking research. The plan for a functional and good looking shoe rack based on research results.

The design reacts with the other brands of Loviisan Aitta, in order to design a shoe rack that matches the selection and at the same time makes the selection different. The selected concept idea developed to the final shoe rack concept during the product development. The concept idea selected for development was the concept with light design and also the possibility to sit.

The result of the process was a simple and multifunctional shoe rack. The product is suitable for Loviisan Aitta and it represents a new way of design in the collection.
