The purpose of the thesis was to produce a written induction material for the treasurer of Dewi, society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. Furthermore, the purpose was to create new tools to facilitate treasurer’s work. The association did not have any previous induction material for the treasurer and due to the increase in the association’s activity, new methods for the management of finances had to be developed. The induction material consists of the theory part and the manual for the treasurer found in the appendix. The new tools described in the thesis include a reformed account scheme, new accounting program and document templates such as budget monitoring and cash flow statement.

The laws that regulate organisational activity and the code of conduct are discussed in the theory section of the thesis as well as the laws that regulate accounting and the special characteristics in the management of finances in an association. Theory part is based on laws, decrees and relevant literature. The thesis also discusses the theory of orientating of new volunteers and the theory of writing a manual.

The theory is part of the induction material and therefore the aim has been to write it in such a way that the reader does not need to have previous knowledge of organisational activity or accounting. The thesis describes how the new tools for the management of finances are created and what where the reasons for their creation. The manual that is the process’s outcome offers detailed instructions about the use of the new tools for the treasurer.
