The aim of this bachelor's thesis was researched particle properties especially by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and image analysis program INCA Feature. Particle size distribution was analysed from projection of particles by scanning electron microscope. Research include three coating pigments, talc and two different calsium carbonate grades. Also particle size distribution was measured two additives of filteration, aluminium oxide and silica. By scanning electron microscope (SEM) and image analyse program measured particle size distribution was compared to other method analysed particle size distributions. The other methods were Sedigraph 5100 which based on particle sedimentation and Coulter LS 230 which based on laser diffraction. For talc particle Sedigraph 5100 and image analyse program measured very similar result for mean value. Instead Coulter LS 230 analysator measured deviating result for mean value. All measuring equipment were analysed different particle to same size order. However their numerical values cannot compare each other, because their measurement principles were based on different particle size feature. On the grounds of this research all tested particle size analysis methods were suitable for the paper pigment research. In this research also tested how many particle had to measure that the result was reliable. The number of analysed particles had to be at least 300 particles. If the number of particles is too large, the deviation of particle size was increase and analysis time was also increase for many hours. Sample preparation for SEM is the most difficult stage of particle size analyses. It will need more testing in the future. Generalization of automatic microscope will speed up to analysis which popularizing method for the paper pigment research. For the present, at the price of the equipment and requirement of special know-how for operator will define to image analysis for research centers.
