E-lance platforms are labour exchange platforms, where companies can release jobs to a glob-al freelancer network. E-lancers are freelancers who work through these platforms. E-lancers can make offers for listed jobs, after which the employer may select an appropriate e-lancer to do it. E-lance platforms use algorithms to connect e-lancers and companies together. The fin-ished work is delivered through the platform. In this Thesis e-lance platforms are examined from the point of view of companies utilizing them. The goal is to find out what benefits using e-lance platforms brings, as well as what is necessary for their effective usage. Research was conducted as a literature review on key re-search on the topic. The most important sources for this research contained a series of inter-views with representatives of companies using e-lance platforms. The biggest benefit brought by e-lance platforms is the efficient and cost-effective method they provide for outsourcing extra tasks, allowing employees to focus on their core competen-cies. E-lance platforms also provide an efficient way to utilize know-how missing from the company itself. Major challenges in utilizing e-lance platforms are defining tasks appropriately, selecting the right people to do them and managing the e-lancer relationship. Based on the literature, one key factor in a successful adoption of e-lance platforms was the creation of an e-lance support department in the company. This department should create tem-plate models for different job definitions, company-wide guidelines for job pricing and a com-prehensive information package on the company for hired e-lancers. Other key factors in suc-cessful adoption are moving from process management to result management, pricing accord-ing to desired quality, creating a bench of trusted e-lancers and defining a clear result for jobs. Open talent market platforms are a developing phenomenon and provide an interesting subject for future research.
