Informaatiomuotoilu palvelumuotoilussa – case Muurola

This thesis discusses the usage of survey as a tool in service design and the visual quality of information in a project report. The study is based on Toimiva Muurola project, which was carried out with the city of Rovaniemi. The objective of the study was to find out how well the survey as a whole produced qualitative information in the project. Second objective was to develop a method to test the quality of visualized information. Third objective was to analyse the visualized information pf the project report using the developed method. This study is a qualitative case study, which uses the survey conducted in the Toimiva Muurola -project and the visualizations created for the project report excluding photographs. For the first objective, the conducted survey was analysed as a whole and contrasted against the theory also the success of the survey was reflected. For the second objective the testing method was created based on theory. The third objective was met by applying the developed method on the visualized information in the project report. The survey was the right tool due to the large amount of customers it tried to reach. The struture of the survey allowed analysing the results in such a way that the underlying patterns could be discovered. The survey can be seen as failed due to the small amount of responses gathered but it still produced valuable information of how the customers should be contacted. The developed testing method was designed to be adaptive and easily put into action. It aims to analyse the visualization comprehensively. The visualizations created for the Toimiva Muurola -project report proved to be quite good. The method developed in this study can be used to check one's visualizations before publishing. The method is not suitable for analysing photographs.
