Optimizing working and concentration on the right things are in the pin point of the subject of optimizing core functions of an organization. When different stages of working process take more time than resources allow can the resources available to most of the organizations be realized: the work force and their creativity. By bringing together people into groups and feeding their creativity can be process of change set in motion which may turn out to be fruit full in form of a more efficient protocol or more focused area of concentration, which in turn save valuable resources for the rainy days to come. This report presents how four different idea generation methods where tested within ABB Oy Domestic Sales organization. These methods where brainstorming, brainwriting, distant thought patterns and affinity diagram. Report consists parts of theory and practice. In the theory part group’s inner processes are presented such as group dynamics. Addition to this theory phase also covers problem solving, creativity and formation of innovations. Theory also covers the basics of four idea generation methods: brainstorming, brainwriting, distant thought patterns and affinity diagram. In the practice part the current state of idea generation and structure of the test groups are presented. Addition to this practice part presents idea generation testing methods developed using theoretical knowledge, survey conducted about these methods and analyzation of this survey. Based on the analyze made from the survey results can be stated that all the methods had a positive impact on the idea generation capability and use of working time of all the groups which participated to the tests. Especially use of affinity diagram and brainstorming methods generated extremely positive comments among all the participated groups.
