Development of production methods in a ventilation sheet metal industry

The object of this master’s thesis” Development of Production Methods in a Ventilation Sheet Metal Industry” has been to research recent development in sheet metal production technology. Research was focused on ventilation industry.

Techniques of sheet metal forming, bending, cutting and joining were included. In forming interest was focused on impulse forming and developments achieved on deep drawing methods, materials and equipment’s.

Bending chapter was focused on folding machine, automatic bending system and robotized edging. Cutting chapter was focused on fine blanking, water jet cutting and thermic methods of cutting sheet metal. Turret punch press / laser cutting combination unit manufacturing applicability was examined. Joining chapter was focused on sheet metal applicable methods, such as adhesive bonding, adhesive taping, welding and soldering methods and mechanical joining.

Costs and use of prepainted and precoated sheet metal were examined. Programs for bending planning, forming simulation and factory simulation were found interesting. Use of those programs might lower costs.

To expand view and knowledge about sheet metal industry benchmarking visits to other companies were made domestic and abroad. Those visits made possible to have overall view on the sheet metal industry and pick up new ideas for our production.

Applicability of production methods for sheet metal products was examined in a practical part of work. One major case was to improve manufacturability of stainless-steel products. Also, lubricants and lubrication technology, clinching, arc soldering and turret punch press / laser cutting combination unit were examined.
