This Master's Thesis was done for Teollisuuden Voima Oyj to develop the operating experience process and database. The objective of the thesis was to clarify the reasons why the operating experience process does not currently succeed in preventing reoccurrence of events and their causes. In addition, one of the objectives was to define ways to better integrate the operating experience process into the other processesses and to define requirements specification for the operating experience database that will replace the system currently in use.

Previously the operating experience programme and its' effectiveness have been developed separately from the other processes. Therefore the development has focused on fulfilling the external requirements on the programme, due to which the needs and benefits of the other processes haven't been identified or defined.

During this work the personnel of the Olkiluoto NPP were extensively interviewed to map out the views in the organisation on the current state of the operating experience process as well as its' expectations and how they are currently fulfilled. Finally the thesis offers ways to develop the process to address these issues as well as specifications for the information system that will be better suited to support the operating experience programme.
