Comparison of the climate plans of the City of Orimattila and the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme and mapping of co-operation opportunities between the City of Orimattila and local companies

Due to the change in the Ilmastolaki (423/2022), from March 1st of 2023, municipalities are obliged to draw up a municipality-specific climate plan, which reports on the development of the municipality's greenhouse gas emissions and an action plan, as well as the parties responsible for making emission reductions. Municipalities may draw up the climate plan with neighbouring municipalities. The City of Orimattila has drawn up its own climate plan.

The Regional Council of Päijät-Häme has drawn up the climate road map of Päijät-Häme to promote and unify the climate measures of the province. The municipalities of Päijät-Häme may participate in the climate road map, and when participating they must commit in the climate road map's guidelines. The climate road map does not meet the definition of a municipality-specific climate plan, so in addition to joining the climate road map, the municipality must prepare its own climate plan.

The climate plan of Orimattila and climate road map of Päijät-Häme are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary action programs. The climate program of the City of Orimattila adapts the main outlines of the climate road map, although measures are proportionate to situation of the City of Orimattila.

Companies are encouraged to join the municipality's climate projects with new incentives. To promote the climate goals of the City of Orimattila, the attitudes of companies and municipality-led climate projects were mapped here. Information and increased visibility are considered as good incentives by the participants. Companies call for the responsibility to verify the actual climate actions of the companies. More than projects, companies prefer information about the possible implementation of climate measures. Companies also hope for support in investment planning, implementation, and finding special operators, for example, energy consultants.
