Corporate social responsibility is a topical issue and companies have an important role to play in addressing sustainability challenges. Employees are also increasingly interested in the responsibility of their employer organization. Organizations around the world report that employees are increasingly disengaged. Employee retention has become increasingly challenging for organizations. Therefore, this thesis explores how corporate social responsibility affects employee retention in organizations. The research was conducted using qualitative research methods by interviewing representatives from three different industries. The interview data was analyzed, and the results were compared with previous research findings. The results of the study show that corporate social responsibility is one solution to employee engagement in organizations. The results also show that the perception of work meaningfulness is a key element of retention. Corporate social responsibility is linked to the experience of meaningfulness, and it can be concluded that these together influence employees' positive perceptions of their employers. The results underline the fact that the factors influencing retention are perceived to be the same as the factors that create work meaningfulness. To retain a skilled workforce in organizations, employees need to be given time to engage in corporate social responsibility activities and thus strengthen their sense of meaningfulness. Organizations should identify these when designing their CSR strategy, as organizations benefit from an engaged workforce.
