This master’s thesis was carried out in a printing works. Lately, the Internal supply-chain of this company has been developed and the improvements have been directed to activities, quality, productivity and layout. New machines have been bought and old machines repaired. Some of personnel have been let go and the company management responsibilities have been modified.

This master’s thesis consists of three parts. In this thesis, the internal processes and selected problems are discussed and developed. First part of this thesis contains theory of Lean and tools of Lean. The second part describes the present state of the process. The Research and representing parts of process are main part of the thesis. Problems are searched and used as a source for later projects. The thesis handle also three continuous improvement development project. The third part of thesis is accomplishing selected continuous improvement projects. Working methods are first described and the reasons for the arguments are discussed. The follow-up operations are discussed in the end, too.

In the future, the results of the improvement projects can be utilized for new projects. As this research was a pilot, learning was the greatest result. The results of this thesis were working process flowcharts in almost every stage. Improvement suggestions can also be regarded as results.

The first of three development process was the work card. The goal was to get more information in to the work card and this was achieved. The products in warehouse were the second project. Foreseeing customer’s orders was the first goal, and second goal was to get inventory value right. More results can be found if the improved activities are increased and processed to another customer. One workstation development was the last of the development projects. Layout, standardizing of work and Lean tool 5S was the keywords to this development project. Effectiveness of the workstation is now higher but the main learning and the result was learning of lean.
