The purpose of the thesis was to create a growth folder to a day care centre in Helsinki, Finland. The need for this kind of production came from the day care centre itself. Three workshops were organized in the day care centre and in those the early childhood educators' ideas and wishes for the folder were collected. These were used as a material for creating the growth folder. The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of the chapters of an early childhood education, pedagogical documentary, the growth folder and the child-oriented way of work.

The day care centre’s early childhood education teachers participated in the first and the second workshop. The idea tree and cumulative group methods were used in the workshops. With those methods the basic ideas, needs and wishes, but also the suggestions of the interleaf names and the use of the growth folder were collected. The first version of the growth folder was created after those two workshops. In the third workshop the day care nurses of the centre also participated in it and the feedback from the first version of the growth folder and the possible improvements were collected. The final version of the growth folder was developed to be used as a concrete folder, the base of it was sent as an electronic file to the day care centre workers. The electronic file contains the growth folder's frame, instructions and example tasks for demonstrating the use of the folder. The file can be printed out and used by the childhood educators as they will.
