The aim of the thesis is to draw the full picture of how AI, Machine Learning and automation technology potentially influences the field of Human Resources in the following years from the perspective of HR-specialists: the potential benefits, possibilities and concreate solutions the technologies provide for the organization.

At the time of the conduction of the interviews in 2019, AI and Machine Learning remained as one of the most discussed trends in technology and during the years 2018-2019 the topic hit the headlines in many aspects varying from self-driving cars to chatbots and AI recruiting. However, general discussion highlighted the possibilities and threats the technology could pose; from ethical decision making to virtual assistants replacing the workforce – but most of the solutions underlined the promises with little or no actual business cases and brought benefits. One of the underlining reasons to conduct the research was to focus on an existing company and the actual value the solutions could provide to the company; and how realistic the expectations of implementing the applications to existing (HRMS) systems and current business processes.

A qualitative research was conducted in a selected IT company, where four (4) HR-Specialists and a HR-director were interviewed in order to find out how well the benefits of using automation, AI and Machine learning were understood and whether the specialists had specific knowledge of how the technology could provide more value for the company in the long run; what could be the benefits or possible threats and challenges related to the implementation of AI enabled solutions.
