This thesis was commissioned by Warner Music Finland. The objective of this project was to look at the features of organizational communication inside this company and, taking them into consideration, to create an orientation guide tailored to the specific needs of this company.

The basis of the thesis is in organizational communication, with orientation being the central focus. The relevant theories behind this project helped shape the content and overall feel of the orientation guide. Most importantly, the project was about strengthening the company’s competitiveness through developing and implementing this guide.

The subject for the thesis began to form in the spring of 2012, when the possibility of a commission in the company was researched. The writing process took place in the summer and early autumn. The project was completed in November 2012.

The final products are two separate orientation guides. One is designed for the entire staff; it contains general information about the company, its policies and employment contracts. The second guide is for assistant trainees; it contains specific instructions on how to handle everyday tasks, working as a so-called checklist for these daily routines.

According to the final feedback from the commissioning company, these guides were found to be useful and are something that can be implemented on a practical level. In the near future they will be used to support the various orientation processes in the company.
