Työkokemuksen merkitys Jyväskylän ammattikorkeakoulun tradenomien työllistymisessä

The objective of the thesis was to find out the significance of work experience in the employment of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences Bachelor of Business Administration students (or BBAs for short). The goal of the study was also to find out what concrete information and skills being at work offers and what kind of practical knowledge BBAs need to get employed. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach, and the method used was theme interviewing. Four Bachelor of Business Administration students who were near the end of their studies or had completed their studies from Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences were interviewed for the study. The research data was analyzed with thematic analysis. In the research, BBA students considered that operating in working life had developed their way of working and operating to become more characteristic of working life and given a realistic picture of jobs in their own field. In terms of learning, work experience was seen as an opportunity to use learned knowledge in practice. Previous work experience was considered as a significant benefit when applying for a job. The positive effects of work experience were noticed in the field of studies, working life and civil life. The general experience was that much more should be invested in gaining work experience as a part of studying. Theory-oriented studying was considered to provide a basis for knowledge, but not the ability to act and work independently. According to the findings of this thesis, work experience is perceived as almost as important for the development of knowledge and competence as the BBA studies themselves. Gaining work experience from studies, work experience program or internships would serve the development of BBA students' knowledge and employment better than they currently do. In addition, the current curriculum was considered confusing and inflexible in terms of developing students' knowledge.
