This thesis explores portrait photography in studio settings. The theme includes how to work in a studio environment, how to work with a model and how different lightings are created. The work also addresses some of the technical requirements and camera qualities and guides how some established lighting styles are created.

The knowledge base is composed of basic qualities, the nature, and modifications of lighting. The knowledge base also concentrates on how to work with a model, how a camera is used in a studio setting and what role colors, lines, shapes, and composition have in a photo.

The practical part of the thesis presents the execution of the example lightings created during the thesis process, and states how the lighting situations are achieved. The guidance of the models and the creative process of the photos are also analyzed. Lastly the targets of our own improvement and notes received during the work are discussed.
