An importing company is responsible for the food supplements it imports. Unfortunately, the legislation concerning food supplements is complicated and scattered. Hence, the aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to provide a solution to this problem by creating an orientation guide to in-house control of food supplements for importers. A more specific target group of the guide was the company’s new employees who possess less experience of food supplements. The theoretical part of this thesis introduced the different notification procedures related to food supplements, food control authorities, and different parts of in-house control. The theoretical part provided a basis for the actual guide, which is more practical by nature. The purpose of the orientation guide was to support the accurate execution of in-house control among importers.

The theoretical framework for this bachelor´s thesis was based on data from a wide variety of sources (e.g. national legislation and regulation, the European Union legislation, authorities, news sources). The data was inspected especially from the importer’s point of view. The orientation guide to in-house control of food supplements was presented as an electronic document. The objective was to make the guide practical and easy to access without compromising the necessary theoretical information. The intention was that the guide could be used in employee induction. The guide was evaluated by the client company and three outside persons. The feedback was collected with a printed questionnaire inquiry. Despite the complexity of food supplement legislation, the guide was perceived as understandable and suitable. The contents of the guide were considered as thorough and the layout was appraised as attractive. Thus, the guide met its prerequisite goals.
