The objective of this thesis was to research gamification and user experience design and to transfer theory into practice. The gamification and user experience were specified for a mobile application. The application was designed to support a company’s development and to add more interest for using gamification. Gamification was exploited to make a good user experience design for the mobile application. The thesis studied the theory of the user experience design and gamification. The user experience design theory section dealt with the different steps of the design process. The steps were analysis, design, implementation and evaluation. The analysis step contained the application’s requirement specifications and the application’s concept was created in the design step based on the requirement specifications. The Visual guidance was created for a prototype in the implementation step. The prototype was meant to test the application’s functionality and evaluate the user experience. The application’s evaluation and observations for the further development were made in the evaluation step. The theoretical part of the gamification dealt with player types and the elements of gamification. Gamification is a user experience design tool and it will be added to the application to increase good user experience. Each step of the design process paid attention to gamification. To maintain the interest of the application some gamification elements were added to the design. For example, rewarding, computer controlled (boss) level and playing against the time. The thesis was done for Zaibatsu Interactive Oy, a game company from Jyväskylä operating in game development, gamification and application development. The practical part was made with the Zaibatsu Interactive Oy’s development team. The result was a prototype made according to the design process and visual guidance.
