YleX radio station is constantly making a radio series that gives the listeners a chance to go deep into a certain subject. A well-conducted series can bring more listeners to the station. It also helps the journalists if a point of view of the article is pre-defined. They don’t need to invent so many ideas every day when some ideas are already invented.

In my thesis I’ll find rules that the journalists should pay attention to while planning and making a radio series. What kinds of features should a succesful radio series have? I’m looking for an answer to this question through my own experiences and by interviewing the producers and the Head of Programmes at YleX radio station.

The thesis also discusses the special needs one has to consider when a serie is aired in different programs at YleX. The basis of my own experience is Miun kannut – a radio series I made at fall 2007. It also provides a good example of problems you may be facing while making a series. The rules will be introduced in the present thesis. Furthermore, by acknowledging the troubles that may be encountered, one can avoid them and consequently make a succesful radio series.
