The thesis is commissioned by Jarcrac Oy. The company designs and markets track and small forest machines in Ranua. The goal of the client has been to obtain safety cab approval for the cab of the tracked machine. The thesis introduces the approval process of the cab and the design of the cab structure in the Multi machine. In addition, the manufacturability of the cab is studied, and the requirements related to the tests of Eurofins Oy are clarified. In the design, special attention was paid to the manufacturability of the cab, to manufacturing costs, and to driver safety. The most demanding part of the thesis was to design and to model a functional protection for the cab roof. The protection was planned to be carried out by welding additional parts to be attached to the cab. The welding process needed special designing. For approval, the safety cab must be tested by Eurofins Oy. To avoid extra transport and testing costs of the client of the thesis, the durability of the cab was dimensioned to meet the test requirements significantly. However, dimensioning was severely constricted by the fact that the increase in cab mass should remain in a minimum. Due to the limited schedule of the thesis, the cab tests will be performed after completing the thesis in the early summer of 2021. This procedure will give the client time to prepare the cab so that the construction of the test cab will not significantly slow down the delivery time of the machines. Before performing the tests, the practical functionality of the safety cab must be verified. The functionality of the safety cab will be clarified during the spring of 2021. After the approval of the safety cab, no changes affecting the durability of the cab are allowed to be made. Therefore, the functionality of the safety cab has been taken into account when designing the cab to allow potential later changes in the frame structure of the Multi machine.
