Etteplan offers the following services to its customers: industrial equipment and plant design solutions, software and embedded system solutions as well as technical documentation solutions. The company's most important customers are global manufacturing companies. Etteplan's services improve competitiveness throughout the product life cycle in customers' various products, services, and design processes.

In this thesis, a case study is used as a research method to study the suitability of the top-level model of Etteplan's technical documentation process for the implementation of structured documentation.

The study provides a better understanding of the process of implementing structured documentation in an individual case. Documentation professionals can utilize these results in their own structured documentation implementing projects and for their educational purposes.

The theoretical part reviews the basics of structured documentation. At the beginning of the development work, the initial situation of the customer's documentation process is determined by comparing it with the information process maturity model, and development opportunities are presented using the methods offered by Etteplan.

Project management is introduced using the ISO 21500:2012 Guidelines for Project Management standard and it is compared to existing Etteplan processes. This is followed by a description of the implementation of structured documentation for the customer, in which the Etteplan processes can be compared. Furthermore, by studying and applying these sections together, possible areas for development for the implementation of structured documentation can be elicited.

In conclusion, as a result of this thesis, development ideas and further research topics were created for Etteplan's technical documentation process and for the customer's technical documentation and how to improve it.
