Yritysten hallituspalkkioiden vaikutus motivaatioon: kvantitatiivinen kyselytutkimus

The thesis deals with the most common motivational theories, such as Maslow's, Deci & Ryan's and Hertzberg 's hierarchy of needs, the implementation of surface and deep orientation and two-factor theory within the target group of actors working on company boards. By executing a quantitative survey, the study examined firstly whether people working on company boards feel a connection between the board remuneration and bonuses paid to them and their perceived motivation, and secondly how they feel about the board remuneration paid to them. Thirdly, it was investigated whether there are other factors that motivate them to work on the board, and finally, how they otherwise perceive their own life situation and happiness to be. The survey was conducted for the members of Eastern Finland's board of Trustees part-ners association in the fall of 2022.

In conclusion, as indicated by the survey results, the members participating in the board work feel that the board remuneration and bonuses paid to them is deserved and that their lives are happy. However, the size of the board remuneration itself is ot the most significant source of motivation for those who par-ticipate in board work, but they experience their greatest feelings of success when they have the oppor-tunity to help young companies and company managers, when they make important decisions and when they are involved with in a good and warm-hearted group. In view of this finding, it reinforces Deci & Ryan's theory, where individuals feel their greatest motivation fulfilled if they have appreciation, people who wish them well and they feel that they succeed in their work.
