The aim of the thesis was to investigate the housing investment in Northern Finland and, to make, based on it, a concise and clear guide for those planning to start housing investment in Northern Finland. The aim was to find out whether investment in housing is profitable in Northern Finland, what you should pay attention to when buying investment homes, how income from the investment in the apartment is taxed, and what expenses are deductible in taxation.

The theoretical framework of this thesis deals briefly with the different forms of investment, especially investment in housing. It identifies the various forms of housing, housing prices and rental charges in Northern Finland. Chapter three focuses on issues that the investor should take into account when selecting and buying the apartment.

The study was a development project. Instead of interviews, questionnaire surveys were used to collect the material because the interviewees were lived different parts of Finland. Replies were received from people who were planning to invest in housing, from those who were experienced investors, and from real estate agents. The research section, in addition to the queries, also presents various calculations with the aim is to assess the formation of the return on investment in housing in Northern Finland based on examples.

On the basis of this work, a concise and a clear guide was made for a person planning to start investment in housing. The guide can be found in the annexes to this thesis.
