Shoulder impingement syndrome is one of the most common shoulder girdle diseases. Functional impingement results from glenohumeral instability and shoulder muscle imbalance. The kinesio taping provides sensory stimulation and it involves taping over muscles in order to assist or prevent over-contraction of muscles. That is why kinesio taping can be used to relieve the muscle imbalance in shoulder impingement syndrome. The purpose of this thesis was to collect information on kinesio taping method and the effects of its use in shoulder impingement syndrome. The objective was to provide some tools for physiotherapists treating shoulder impingement syndrome with kinesio taping.

This bachelor’s thesis was conducted as a literature review. The data were gathered from many different scientific databases. There were lots of articles related to shoulder impingement syndrome but only few of them concerning kinesio taping. A total of seven researches were chosen in this literature review. All of them involved kinesio taping in impingent syndrome or are reasonably relayed in its physiotherapy.

The findings of this thesis indicate that kinesio taping have positive effects on shoulder abduction and pain relief with shoulder impingement syndrome. There were also improvements in shoulder functionality with kinesio taping. Further research is required while the limited quality and evidence based researches of kinesio taping in shoulder area.
