The purpose of the thesis was to make an electronic guidebook for the internal medicine department as well as to bring out what a good employee orientation includes. The thesis contains a report part to which the guidebook is attached. In the theoretical part, patient safety is given as a starting point for good introduction to the ward. The issues of what a guidebook should be like, and electronic learning environments were also discussed.

The guidebook goes through the structure of the ward and what kind of patients go there. Nursing in different shifts, as well as the day program of the ward have been carefully reviewed. Matters relating to the transition of patients to and from the ward are summarized. Materials for students can also be found in the guide. The contents of the guide must be checked and modified on a regular basis, so that the new the employee should always receive up-to-date information.

The goal of this study was to provide an updated electronic guidebook for the new employees’ orientation support. The electronic format of the guidebook is easy to use, and hopefully it will facilitate the use and updating of the folder. The overall goal was to improve the quality of new employees’ orientation and patient safety.
