This thesis was carried out as an assignment to a real estate service company. The aim was to find out the current state of the internal communication, i.e. what kind of communication equipment the staff uses and listen to the staff opinions and experiences about the internal communication. Based on the communication research development ideas are suggested to the internal communication. The company had not studied the development possibilities earlier.

Internal communication is seen as one of the keys to companies’ success. It is interaction inside the working community and sharing information and experiences. In addition to sharing information, internal communication creates unity and culture. In the past, the communication went from management to workers but nowadays it is starting to change upside down. The workers have become more active matters and they are demand more information from management e.g. on the economic situation of the company.

Many believe that listening is more important part of the communication than talking. What makes listening so important is the fact that it can be used to increase the motivation and commitment of the staff towards their jobs. When a person is listened to, s/he thinks that s/he is important and can influence. Usually, the communication problems are more the consequences of poor listening than poor talking.

The study about internal communication was implemented as a quantitative research. The data collection tool was an inquiry form. The inquiry included 26 questions, some of them were structured and some of them were open. The inquiry was shared to everybody at the company, as the aim was to get a wide picture about the current state of the internal communication and the equipment for using that. The inquiry was send to 250 person and it received 65 answers.
