The purpose of this thesis was to document job descriptions in production. The main features of every job description are clear, but the goal was to have more detailed description and proper documentation. Idea of this thesis came from the workshop manager.

The main objective was to offer up-to-date descriptions and documentation of all the different to all the jobs found in production. This documentation would be extensive. Conclusion after discussions was that it is better to narrow down the thesis to include only few parts of the assembly line. Process from a successful documentation done from few parts of the production line is easy to copy elsewhere. One point of this thesis was to create a process that is easy to copy and rest of the documentation can be done later.

The thesis was done by using the advantages of action research and RACI-matrix. Applying the above-mentioned methods enough data was collected to create the documentation for the selected areas of production.

Documentation done in this thesis creates good guidelines for everyday work. It can also help in the process of familiarization of new employees. Second goal is to reduce time to be wasted because it is in everybody’s knowledge who does what. Also, processes can come more transparent reducing the possibility that more than one person is doing a same task. This can be a problem specially in problem solving tasks when the same case occurs in different areas.

Most of these benefits will probably be observable after a while. After job descriptions come more familiar, it is easier to go straight to the right person.
