Tämä opinnäytetyö tutkii yhden Suomen suosituimman podcastin rakennetta. Tutkimusaineistona on Esko Seppäsen tuottama Urheilucast, joka on viimeisen kahden vuoden aikana noussut kuuntelijatilastoissa jopa Suomen kuunnelluimmaksi podcastiksi. Opinnäytetyö tutkii menestykseen johtaneen podcastin osien rakennetta. Tarkastelujaksona on kuukauden mittainen ajanjakso helmikuussa 2020. Podcast ilmestyy viikottain maanantaina, keskiviikkona ja perjantaina.

Opinnäytetyö on media-alan opiskelijana tehty oma tutkimus. Podcastit ovat media-alan kentällä viime aikoina vahvasti nousua tehnyt ilmiö, jonka suosio kuluttajien keskuudessa on kasvanut. Urheilucast valikoitui tutkittavaksi podcastiksi sen saavuttaman suosion sekä suuren jaksomäärän ansiosta.

Opinnäytetyö tarjoaa mahdollisuuden tutustua menestyneen podcastin rakenteeseen. Tutkimuksen myötä saadaan tarpeellista tietoa siitä, mistä elementeistä kaupallisesti menestyvän podcast rakentuu ja mitä rakenteita kuluttajat pitävät toimivina. Näitä asioita voidaan siis hyödyntää myös uusia podcasteja kehitettäessä.

This thesis analyses the structure of Urheilucast which is one of the most popular podcasts in Finland. Thesis studies the ways that have led this podcast to the top of the most listened podcasts in Finland past two years. The podcast is broadcast by Finnish media person Esko Seppänen and it’s released three times in a week. In this thesis I will concentrate on the period of February 2020. The podcast comes out weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The thesis is my own project that has been made as the student of media field. Podcasts have increased their popularity in recent years and there’s still a lot of unused potential to make podcasts an even bigger thing. I selected Urheilucast under my investigation because it’s one of the most popular podcasts in Finland. It is also a broadcast by only one reporter which makes its structure interesting.

The thesis gives an opportunity to get to know the structure of a successful sport podcast. It can possibly inform us of issues that shall be taken into account while planning the structure of a new podcast.
